Journey

Thaddeus began his journey as a tutor in 2015, while in Year 12, providing support in Maths to lower years struggling with homework and exam preparation. Since then, he has provided private tuition in Math, Economics, Science, Business Studies, ISEB Pre-Test, 11+/13+, and Philosophy, with a specific focus on exam preparation. He has taught students from a wide variety of backgrounds, at different working levels, and with a range of special educational needs (SEN), including ODD, COCD, ADD, and ADHD.

Alongside the aforementioned work, Thaddeus gained a 1st Class Honours degree in Philosophy and a Masters in Mental Health, Ethics, and Law from King’s College London (KCL). Thaddeus has also worked as an Appropriate Adult (AA) for a number of years, supporting the most marginalised of young people in London as they went through the detention process in police custody.

Approach

Thaddeus believes effective tuition should structure the educational environment in such a way that allows students to be reflective of their own learning – that a sense of ownership over their academic trajectory should be fostered so that young people have autonomy over their learning.  Thaddeus is privileged enough to know the value of a good education and the confidence it can instill. A confidence that can be taken forward into other areas of one’s life. A breakthrough in a student’s understanding, or deepened knowledge of a given subject, is just as rewarding to Thaddeus as when he very first traced the same steps.

Favourite subject

I love Philosophy because it teaches the craft of argument: defining claims, testing assumptions, and deriving valid inferences. This is a structure that translates to a wide range of disciplines – into history essays, scientific papers, legal analysis, and even mathematical proofs. It’s a toolkit for thinking clearly and communicating persuasively, whatever the field of study.

Why CityBright?

We want to be genuinely responsive to the needs of the increasing number of families seeking a more tailored, flexible learning environment that can be shaped around their home life. The Covid-19 lockdown years showed many families how powerful home-based, personalised tutoring can be for progress and wellbeing – and we’ve kept the best of that. With growing awareness and diagnosis of special educational needs, alongside a recent shift away from standardised tests as the main measure of potential in students, we offer families an opportunity to nurture their child’s unique strengths.
